The Roads Design Engineer will work under the guidance of the Roads Design Engineer - (Senior) and will be assisting in the design of various types of major roadway projects. Projects include design of new highways and upgrading/rehabilitation of existing roads.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Management, planning, design and design reviews, reporting of projects, method statements.
• Roadway Design: Responsible for carrying out geometric layouts, horizontal and vertical alignments, site grading, at-grade junctions and/or grade separated interchanges design, pavement analysis, signing, directional signing, and marking
• Highway geometric and structural design including all related street furniture.
• Responsible for preparation of technical reports on various road construction, maintenance & rehabilitation in accordance with highway standards.
• Preparation of projects tender documents including front end documents, particular specifications, and BOQs
• Liaison, coordination and follow up with clients, agencies, sub-consultants & Prequalification and evaluation of contractors.
• Construction Management: Traffic management during construction and construction phasing
• Quantity take off, cost estimate, preparation of tender documents and particular specifications.
• Traffic data collection; automatic and manual traffic counts, traffic analysis, in addition to traffic signal design.
• Solid knowledge of local and international standards such as (AASHTO).
• Liaise with different disciplines within the design team.
• Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Transportation Engineering or a related field
• Minimum 10 years experience, GCC experience is preferred.
Specific skills required
• Exposure to programming software including Primavera or MS Project.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Microstation is required
• Experience with highway design tools or similar computer tools.
• Familiarity with design standards like AASHTO & BS
• Excellent communication skills to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Ability to liaise with traffic engineer

Experience
